*Adrenal glands – on top of each kidney. Work with the hypothalamus and pituitary gland.  Produce hormones that regulate metabolism, the balance of salt, potassium and water, the immune system, and sexual function. Also hormones that help the body with physical and emotional stress by increasing the heart rate and blood pressure. Makes cortisol which controls glucose levels and inflammation of tissue.  Responsible for our ‘flight or fight’ response.  Help us stay grounded, feel vital, calmly focused and alert and provide support to the parasympathetic nervous system whose job is to restore the body.

*Gonads – are the ovaries in a woman and testes in a man. They produce sex hormones and create feminine and masculine characteristics. There is a link between the ovaries and the adrenal glands in that adrenal fatigue can affect a woman’s menstrual cycle.

* Pancreas gland – an elongated organ located diagonally across the back of the abdomen, justbelow and behind the stomach and in front of the spine. It secretes digestive enzymes (digestion) and hormones that regulate the level of glucose (sugar) in the blood.  Diabetes is a common ailment of a poorly functioning pancreas.


Key words Willpower, self discipline, ego identity, self confidence, self love, self esteem, power.
In balance Confidence, fearless, acceptance of life, can translate dreams into reality, joy, self-love, expression of love. Say no easily and without guilt, can express self with ease and truthfulness, no fear in addressing authority figures.  Not easily threatened or intimidated in any situation. Control over emotions and thoughts.  Ego mind or lower mind not able to influence your actions. Standing in your power, gut feeling, clarity, body wisdom. *Thymus gland – located in front and above the heart behind the sternum. It produces the white blood cells that fight infections and destroy abnormal cells (T-lymphocytes (T-cells)).  It isconsidered the master gland of a healthy immune system. T-cell count increases when we are feeling the emotions of love. It is directly affected by our ability to give and receive love.

*Thyroid – The pituitary gland affects the thyroid gland by producing a hormone called thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) which prompts the thyroid to release more T4 & T3.  Thyroid hormones help maintain normal blood pressure, heart rate, digestion, muscle tone and reproductive functions.

* Pituitary Gland and Hypothalamus – the pituitary gland is a tiny gland in a bone on the roof of the nose.  A master gland, it produces hormones that affect all the other endocrine glands.  The hypothalamus controls the pituitary function.  A useful metaphor compared the pituitary to the CEO of a company and the hypothalamus as the Board that provides direction and governance. The hypothalamus works with the medulla oblongata to the regulation of the heartbeat, breathing, constriction and dilation of blood vessels and body temperature.

* Pineal Gland – one of the three master glands (pituitary and hypothalamus glands are other two).  It secretes the hormone melatonin – more is produced with darkness, while daylight slows the amount produced. Melatonin regulates sleep-awake cycle, breathing cycles, and awareness of the time of day and the seasons.
